In search always for a better way of evangelizing in Asiaĥ. On these lines too we should now see, understand and live our Asian Church in the present Asian World, in the middle of the global situation and condition. It helped the faithful to understand the significance of the modern world in their life as Christians it helped also to find out how relevant our faith is for the modern world. That was when they began the process of reflection on the Church in the World, giving birth to the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the World ("Gaudium et Spes"). The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council had made a thorough discernment on the Christian experience and concept of revelation and faith as well as on the existence and understanding of the Church in her mission of evangelization, when they began asking themselves whether they should not see, understand and live the faith in the context of the modern world. This new orientation of a contextual evangelization has its root not only in the life of the Apostolic Church, but also in a more clear way in the Second Vatican Council. And we are called to participate in the mission of our Redeemer. It has shown us, that Redemptoris Missio (The Mission of the Redeemer) was to spread the Good News (´to evangelize´) to the whole human race. The New Evangelization, that the Holy Father John Paul II launched some years ago, tried to understand evangelization with a holistic approach. Some experts call evangelization when we proclaim with explicit words the teaching of Jesus Christ and of the Church they call pre-evangelization when people only indirectly convey the broad spectrum of the Christian revelation and values, for example through health, educational, social or political and cultural services. Often we hear that people make the difference between evangelization and pre-evangelization. Evangelization is seen not only comprising of inculturation and inter-religious dialogue, but also as social service for an integral human promotion. It repeatedly stresses that we are called for a holistic and contextual evangelization, comprising the universal value of peace, justice, solidarity and freedom. Basing on these two basic thoughts EA develops a standpoint that all kinds of social services for the integral human promotion is evangelization. This new approach on evangelization is based on two basic thoughts, namely holistic and contextual evangelization.

Reading EA, one can see that a new approach on Evangelization has been underlying the whole document. It is an answer to the invitation of our Holy Father in the EA to respond to the great question: "how to share with our Asian sisters and brothers what we treasure as the gift containing all gifts, namely the Good News of Jesus Christ". I am glad and thankful to be the participant of this encounter among bishops, priests and lay people to make a faithful reflection and a realistic appraisal of what it means to be the disciples of Christ in our grace filled Asia. As a Symposium, this meeting is an opportunity to look back on the historical Special Assembly for Asia of the Synod of Bishops, more specifically on the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope John Paul II: Ecclesia in Asia (EA), and at the same time to renew the Asian Church´s commitment to mission in the future.
